about

On August 28 1955 a 14 year old African American boy from Chicago named Emmett Till was brutally murdered by while men while visiting relatives in the Mississippi, essentially for making an off the cuff remark to a white women. When the women told her husband about she exaggerated the account. Her husband and brother then hunted the boy down, tortured and murdered him.

Outrage over the killing and subsequent acquittal of the defendants further galvanised the civil rights workers in Mississippi.

The men who murdered Emmett were found not guilty by an all white jury.
