The 18-piece band led by Gillespie had the 22 year old Quincy Jones as his Musical Director. They performed in Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, Turkey, Yugoslavia, and Greece. 

Travelling and performing in these countries made an enormous artistic impact on these musicians.

Gillespie’s experience in Iran, Karachi, Pakistan, Aleppo, Damascus had a great influence on his music. On his return he recorded an album
